ఈ లోకంలో జీవిస్తున్నప్పుడు, భవిష్యత్తును గురించిన అభద్రతాభావం, శత్రువుల నుండి వచ్చే భయాలు లేదా మనం ఆశించిన వాగ్దానాలు నెరవేరుతాయో లేదో అనే సందేహాలు మన హృదయాన్ని ఆందోళనతో నింపేస్తుంటాయి. గొప్ప యుద్ధంలో విజయం సాధించిన తర్వాత కూడా అబ్రాహాము మనస్సులో "ఏదైనా పగ తీర్చుకునే దాడి జరుగుతుందా? నాకు సంతానం లేదు కదా, నా భవిష్యత్తు ఏమవుతుంది?" అనే ఆందోళన కలిగి ఉండవచ్చు. సరిగ్గా ఇటువంటి భయాల మధ్యలోనే, దేవుడు దర్శనంలో అబ్రాహాముకు ప్రత్యక్షమై ఎంతో ఆదరణకరమైన, అభేద్యమైన వాగ్దానాన్ని ఆదికాండము 15:1 లో ఈ విధంగా అనుగ్రహించాడు:
"అబ్రామా, భయపడకుము; నేను నీకు కేడెము, నీ బహుమానము అత్యధికమగును."

నేను నీకు కేడెము (I am thy shield): కేడెము అనేది యుద్ధరంగంలో శత్రువు విసిరే బాణాలు, ఈటెల నుండి పోరాడే వ్యక్తిని కాపాడే ఆయుధం. దేవుడు కేవలం ఏదో ఒక వస్తువును కేడెంగా ఇవ్వడం లేదు; 'ఆయనే' స్వయంగా మనకు కేడెంగా నిలుస్తున్నాడు. సాతాను లేదా లోకం విసిరే ఏ అపవాది బాణమూ దేవుని కేడెమును దాటి మనల్ని తాకలేదు.
నీ బహుమానము అత్యధికమగును (Exceeding great reward): మనకు లభించే అతిపెద్ద బహుమానం లోకసంబంధమైన సంపదలు కాదు, సర్వశక్తిమంతుడైన దేవుడే మన బహుమానము. ఆయన మన పక్షాన ఉన్నప్పుడు, మన ఆత్మీయ మరియు ప్రాపంచిక జీవితంలో అత్యధికమైన ఆశీర్వాదాలు, నెరవేర్పులు ఖచ్చితంగా లభిస్తాయి.
